SNK’s King of Fighters franchise was much of a mystery to me until about 2000 when I was messing around with M.U.G.E.N. and stumbled across these wickedly designed characters from SNK. I soon discovered that they were from the King of Fighters series and ever since, I have been keeping tabs on the franchise.
I have not become a big fan of playing the games since I found the bosses incredibly cheap, but that did not stop me from appreciating the characters, the fighting mechanics and even the story. My love for the franchise reached new heights with the release of Capcom vs SNK and Capcom vs SNK 2. I thought Capcom did SNK characters better than SNK themselves; especially when it came to the visuals and move executions. (Heresy to SNK die hards, I know.)
However, now that Street Fighter IV has gone 3D, high definition 2-D sprites with incredibly smooth animation are extremely rare so it brings me great joy knowing that SNK Playmore is sticking to the tried and true 2-D. KOFXII looks brilliant.
