So You Can Make Money With LBP? (Updated)

Update: So we’re not making money with LBP? Cover up? David Reeves slip up? You decide.

According to an interview Mr. David Reeves of SCEE, talented people will be able to make money off the levels they create in Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet.

So, for example, what we’re trying to do with LittleBigPlanet is almost iTunes meets eBay in the sense that once an individual or a developer has qualified by producing certain levels or certain add-ons, they will then be able in the future to exchange these and make money out of them. Eventually, it’s feasible that you might well see the first LittleBigPlanet millionaire!

Even if you charge less than one euro, it doesn’t take many downloads if you’ve got a really strong LittleBigPlanet level for people to be able to make money. It’s a great way for people to show others what they can do.

iTunes meets eBay? Sounds more like break.com or Second Life to me. Well, almost. It’s actually seems a bit more strict.

Essentially, if you’re a level creator and you become really good at it, Media Molecule’s moderators will grant you the privilege of charging for levels. It’s also up to you to determine the asking price. Sounds fantastic doesn’t it? Well, that depends on how strict Media Molecule is. If they’re very laxed with their requirements, everyone will be charging money for content. On the other hand, if they have a high standards, this will be a great incentive for people to create something truly amazing.

None of this has been set in stone yet, but whatever they do decide upon, I hope it benefits LBP in the long run.
