Wii, Gears 2 and GTAIV Sales

posted in: Game News 0

Sales numbers. What a bore, hmm? Well, you may not find it interesting, but I do — especially when you find out that the Nintendo Wii sold approximately 800, 000 units during the American Thanksgiving weekend.

According to Nintendo’s President, Satoru Iwata, the Wii managed to sell more than double last year’s sales of 350,000 units over the same period of time. Oh, Nintendo, if only had a “Super Mario Galaxy” or a new “Legend of Zelda” for this holiday season.

Speaking of increased rate of sales, Epic Games’ Mark Rein, announced that Gears of War 2 has passed 3 million units sold — that’s within four week’s time. Very impressive considering that the original took an additional six weeks to reach that number.

In related news, Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick, provided some interesting sales data with regards to Grand Theft Auto IV. Below are the percentage of install bases which purchased a copy of GTAIV

  • 32% of the PlayStation 3 install base
  • 28% of the Xbox 360 install base
This data comes just before the full force of the holiday rush.
