2 million Nintendo Wii console units in a month?! That’s insane. Absolutely insane. Those Nintendo DS sales are equally astonishing. Microsoft is riding the wave of affordable pricing as well with a healthy 800K. The PlayStation 3 sales are alright considering that the cheapest machine costs $399.99. Sony, that price cut would help considerably.
There were surprises for software sales as well with the huge resurgence of Mario Kart Wii. Gears of War 2 sales were to be expected, but that Call of Duty: World at War surprised me with 2 million units sold between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Guitar Hero: World Tour finally made into the top 10, but for the Nintendo Wii version — not surprising, but I’m sure this will mean song discs being churned out in the future. And finally, Resistance 2 did well enough.
What a month! Congrats to all three console manufacturers, but especially Nintendo and Microsoft!
