April U.S. NPD Numbers In: The Sky Is Falling

posted in: Game News | 0

It’s reminiscent of last year’s April, but worse.

Hardware

  1. DS – 1.04 million
  2. Wii – 340, 000
  3. Xbox 360 – 175, 000
  4. PlayStation 2 172, 000
  5. PlayStation 3 – 127, 000
  6. PlayStation Portable – 116, 000

Software

  1. Wii Fit w/ Balance Board – NOA – 471, 000
  2. DS – Pokemon Platinum – NOA – 433, 000
  3. Wii – Mario Kart w/ Wheel – NOA – 210, 000
  4. Wii Play w/ Remote – NOA – 170, 000
  5. 360 – The Godfather II – EA – 155, 000
  6. 360 – Resident evil 5 – Capcom USA – 122, 000
  7. DS – New Super Mario Bros – NOA – 119, 000
  8. DS – Mario Kart DS – NOA – 112, 000
  9. 360 – Guitar Hero Aerosmith – Activision Blizzard – 110, 000
  10. PS3 – The Godfather II – EA – 91, 000

Dismal month.  Aside from the PlayStation 2 (price cut)  and Nintendo DS (launch of DSi), all other platforms had their numbers drastically reduced. I believe this is the lowest I’ve seen the Nintendo Wii for well over a year. Tough economic times slowing hardware sales? I wouldn’t doubt it.

Software  top 10 still filled with Nintendo software. It’s amazing how Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Brothers come rushing into the top 10 after the launch of the DSi; only Nintendo can evergreen like this. Resident Evil 5 took a dive in numbers and Killzone 2 isn’t even in the top 10. I’m surprised that The Godfather II made it into the top 10 for both HD consoles.

I guess this picture is appropriate for this April:
