First impressions after watching this trailer: bad ass. But this is an Ubisoft Montreal game so I had to put on the “skeptic goggles” and look closer.
There are a lot of neat ideas here, but the trailer’s highlight feature of marking and executing seems to be a classic example of Ubisoft Montreal’s “little input, big reward” style of design. It makes you look like a bad ass, but will you feel like one? Will I feel the same sense of accomplishment of actually mentally marking and manually executing the terrorists for myself? I doubt it. This newest “innovation” just wreaks of casual audience appeasement.
Fortunately, it looks like it’s an option — I’m hoping they design the game with that in mind. I’d hate to be forced to use this in order to progress. For now, we’ll have to wait and see how they implement this “easy win” option in the final code.
