Bungie divorced from Microsoft awhile back. With Halo 3: ODST complete and Halo: Reach releasing later this year, the future of Bungie was a relative unknown until today.
Earlier today, Bungie announced they’ve signed a 10 year publishing deal with Activision. The details of the deal are quite simple:
- For the next 10 years, Activision will be publishing an “action” game based on new intellectual property from Bungie
- Bungie will own this new intellectual property and have creative control over it
- Their games will most likely be multiplatform
With all the hoopla surrounding Infinity Ward and Activision, some of this may seem like a shocking move to some. However, everyone must keep in mind that Bungie’s deal is similar to that of Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts. Infinity Ward did not have control over their I.P. which was one of the major points of contention in their relationship with Activision.
This news is pretty damn exciting though. I wonder what they’ll come up with since they’ll be free from the chains of the Halo franchise. We’ll obviously not see their new game with Activision for a couple of years, but I look forward to it!
