Price drop incoming for the Nintendo 3DS? Already?! Yeppers.
Nintendo wasn’t happy with the 3DS’ performance and have decided to drop the price by $80 in just over five months of it being on North American shores.
To stave away the anger and resentment of early adopters, Nintendo will be giving away 10 NES and 10 GBA games via Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS Virtual Console.
In order to qualify, all you have to do is register your Nintendo 3DS before August 11, 2011, 11:59 PM EST. After you do that, you’ll receive those freebies sometime after September 1st. (If you’re feeling crafty, I suggest you take advantage of some price protection policies)
I can’t remember the last time Nintendo did something like this. Are they taking a loss on hardware with this kind of drastic price cut? What’s Sony’s reaction to this? After all, they did try hard to keep the price low. I can’t imagine they’re pleased.
I won’t be getting a Nintendo 3DS yet. I’m still going to wait for a redesign before pulling the trigger.
