Happy birthday, Xbox. You’re 10 years old.
But really, who cares about the Xbox of the past? Let’s talk about the future of Microsoft’s booming platform.
Rumored hardware specifications have been spouted and if they look pretty darn good if they’re to be believed.
Microsoft is apparently looking into including:
- a six core CPU
- 2GB of DDR3 RAM
- Dual AMD GPUs
- Unknown amount of VRAM
The optimist in me will be glad to see 2GB’s worth of system memory and another 1GB of video memory. However, the pessimist (or realist) is leaning towards a total of 2GB’s worth of system & video memory.
The Xbox 360 featured 512MB of RAM which was arguably the absolute bare minimum for a PC in 2005. 2GB is the absolute bare minimum in 2011. 4GB is the recommended, but if Microsoft wishes to keep costs down, I can see them opting for the 2GB.
