E3 2012: Day 1 – EA & Ubisoft Edition

e3-logoI finally With Electronic Arts and Ubisoft’s press conferences done and Sony’s event an hour or so away, I have a bit of time to catch up on the stuff that I missed.

Let’s start with EA.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (PS3, 360, PC)
Release date: October 30, 2012

Dead Space 3 (PS3, 360, PC)
Release date: February 2013

I didn’t play Burnout: Paradise to completion. The NFS: Hot Pursuit also went unfinished. Maybe Need For Speed: Most Wanted from Criterion will be the first Criterion title I complete? Perhaps. It is named after one of my favorite Need for Speed titles and it does look absolutely gorgeous in motion; so why not?

Dead Space 3 features co-op which isn’t what I wanted from the franchise. I’m not writing it off, but I’m not sold on it yet either. The inclusion of universal ammunition and a cover system doesn’t necessarily signify spooky action thriller to me.

Assassin’s Creed 3 (PS3, 360, PC)
Release date: October 30, 2012

Watch Dogs (Unannounced platforms)
TBA

Quite possibly the most intriguing demo/reveal thus far goes to Ubisoft Montreal’s upcoming new property called “Watch Dogs”. First it showcased visuals that look out of reach for this current generation of consoles (Update: It’s probably just the PC version since they announced it for PS3, 360 and PC). Then there’s the idea of controlling a team from multiple perspectives; it’s not original, but it is uncommon. And finally: it’s a new idea! With so many games tacking on the numbers 3 and 4, it’s refreshing to see one without a number associated to it.

Oh and I guess Assassin’s Creed III looks pretty good.
