Checkpoint: Lazy Summer Sundays 2013 Edition

I don’t know when or if I will get around to writing about these games, so I decided to cobble my current impressions of these “summer games” in today’s post.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I’ve enjoyed my first Animal Crossing title but I also feel that if things don’t pick up, I may eventually drop it for something else. I wish there was a way to convert this title into a 3DS digital version because swapping out carts just so I can pick fruits, and do “dailies” will eventually wear out my patience.

I check in daily just for the possibility of new things to appear but time between morsels of newness is growing.

Plants vs Zombies 2

My mobile game of choice at the moment is Popcap’s Plants vs Zombies 2. I am enjoying the hell out of it right now. So far, I’m seeing nothing but the good side of Free2Play. I haven’t felt the need to shell out real (or virtual) money on anything.

It is familiar to those who played the original and I prefer the music of the original game more. But those are my only complaints thus far. Oh, I guess I will rail against the changes to the Walnut degradation; it was more amusing in the first game.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

I’ve never played a Mario & Luigi title before but a generous offer to trade in Luigi’s Mansion 2 for it was too good to pass up. I didn’t know it was a seperate splinter off Super Mario RPG.

It’s a plodding start thus far and I’m tired of Mario and Luigi’s stereotypical Italian silly antics already. I don’t know how long I will stick with it.

Asura’s Wrath

It’s interactive anime and I haven’t watched anime for a long while. I am enjoying the ridiculous set pieces and somewhat clever uses of quick time events. It’s like I’m playing a series of God of War fights.

My only complaint thus far — which I can mitigate — are the fights against the minions. These encounters are uninteresting and tedious and my decision to play this game on hard difficulty is exacerbating the problem. The next time I hit a wall, I think I’m just going to lower the difficulty and move forward.
