Metal Gear Solid 5 TGS 2013 Demonstration

Fans of Metal Gear Solid have littered the forums and YouTube comment sections with accusations of “dumbing down” and “copying” long time rival Splinter Cell. I see where those fans are coming from but I don’t necessary believe their inclusions are necessarily a bad sign.

These inclusions help soften the blow of failure but they don’t necessarily make the game a cakewalk. I didn’t see the “Mark and Execute” ability. The slow motion looked like something that would only trigger in dire situations. If you didn’t want it to trigger, don’t get caught carrying a man across a military base.

I’m more concerned with the lack of noticeable improvements with the animation of Snake. He still has the stilted mannerisms from his previous games. I don’t know if it’s a deliberate decision or one continued due to lack of expertise.

There’s still plenty of time for Kojima and company to prove to us all that this isn’t just a simple dumbing down of mechanics to please the masses. I just hope they do so with conviction, so we’re not left wondering up until release date.
