I never played Minecraft beyond the in browser Java demo but I got it, respected it and said it wasn’t for me. I understood why it was such a draw for people but I’m not quite sure why Microsoft thought it was worth $2.5 billion.
Phil Spencer’s video doesn’t mention the popularity of the game with the younger generation but I’ve heard it being equated to the likes of Mario. If kids today are more familiar with Minecraft than Mario, then (to me) Microsoft just bought a ticket onto millions of devices for years upon years to come.
