Two Sequels and AudioSurf

Time for another one of them summary posts!

Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia website has a mysterious logo being consumed by black goo. It probably has something to do with the new Prince of Persia coming. Next month’s issue of Edge Magazine will probably have the scoop. I’ve only played the original and I hear this is a reboot of the franchise and not a dark and bloody sequel.

There will be an Earthworm Jim 4 with accompanying cash-ins. (A movie and TV series). I can picture EWJ 4 as a 3D platformer much like Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank which already incorporates all of the earthworm’s basic moveset in some form or another. Thus, I’ll be very disappointed if this game falls short of the Insomniac’s quality. That’s how high (unfair) expectations works, folks.

And finally, AudioSurf is apparently coming to XBLA. Yay for the folks who cannot play it on PC, but meh for those like me who cannot play it via controller or even keyboard; mouse is the only way to go if they’re doing a mere port. It’s a shame they’re not releasing it for PSN, because motion controls may actually work better for this.

I gushed over AudioSurf before, but that was just the demo. The retail game is coming to Steam on February 15th, 2008 for a low price of $9.95 USD. Pre-order now and you’ll receive 10% off. That’s $8.95 USD for AudioSurf! It’s impossible not to buy it!This is the first title to utilize Valve’s Steamworks development platform and perhaps in celebration, Valve decided to bundle the Orange Box soundtrack with AudioSurf as well. A very nice bonus since I would have gladly paid $9.95 USD for AudioSurf itself.

Check out the homepage for more info and buy it here from Steam.

It’s all preloaded on my end.

Musical Gaming Bliss: Rez HD and AudioSurf

I have an infactuation for music games. No, I’m not talking about Guitar Hero or Rock Band. I am talking about games like Rez, Lumines and Everyday Shooter. If you took a look at those videos and were turned off by them — I’m not surprised. Videos do a terrible job at conveying these types of games. Well, I’m not here to entice you folks into playing these games, I’m actually posting to inform you all about Rez HD’s imminent release and AudioSurf, an awesome Indie game.

AudioSurf is absolutely brilliant. It’s like a blend of Guitar Hero + Wipeout + Tetris. Yes, it’s a musical rhythmic puzzle racer. DragonForce’s Through the Fire and Flames is also featured in a video here. What other songs are available? Anything you want. AudioSurf will analyze any song you have and generate a level for it. You can try out a very limited demo from the homepage, but since it only allows you play a handful of preselected songs at the moment, I’d wait for the full release.

As for Rez HD: it’s coming soon. Possibly this Wednesday, even. I’m not going to even bother explaining what Rez is about because this Wiki page does a better job. You can also try to understand the game through this video of a noob playing below:
