Batman: Arkham Origins & Origins Blackgate Announced

Surprise. There’s a new Batman: Arkham _____ game coming. This prequel isn’t developed by Rocksteady. Warner Bros. Montreal will take the helm on this while Rocksteady works on something else. Details from the GameInformer magazine reveal can be found here. It will debut for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC on October 25th of this year.

After finishing Batman: Arkham City, more Batman in the vein of those games is the last thing I’m looking for. I am looking forward to the other title, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate which is coming for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

I’m excited for the handheld title because it is a 2D Metroid style game developed by some of the folks who created Metroid Prime. Additional details from the Game Informer reveal of this title can be found here.

Like with Batman: Arkham Asylum, Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham City was not what I was expecting. I thought I would like a sequel that featured more Batman: Arkham Asylum, but in a “city” like environment. I believed it would contextualize Batman better as the hero of people and shed light on how Batman operates in a real world setting. Unfortunately I found Arkham City’s open world direction did more harm than good.

FYI: Batman: Arkham City PC & PlayStation Vita Release Dates

Announcements

  • Batman: Arkham City PC release date moved to November 18, 2011 (via GameSpot)
  • PlayStation Vita launches February 22, 2012 for North Americans (via PS.Blog)

Release dates! Release dates that don’t really apply to me.

I won’t be playing Batman: Arkham City anytime soon. I was thinking about picking up a console version for ease of sharing with my brother, but with the “VIP pass” program in place, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be the better path.

Unless the pass is applicable to the entire console, he’ll miss out on the Catwoman content if he uses his own account. If that’s going to be the case, we might as well get the PC version and just share that version. And according to the latest news, I could play that version as soon as November 18th.

Or I may just do what I’m doing with the PlayStation Vita and simply wait for the inevitable price drop. I hear it’s awesome and if it’s truly awesome, it’ll continue being awesome in 2012.

Batman: Arkham City Gameplay Footage

Look, I’m just going to tell it like it is. It’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, but bigger. Or at least that’s what I gather from the gameplay debut. Is that bad thing? Hell, no! Batman: Arkham Asylum was amazing; the best super hero game ever created.

I’m definitely getting it, so that’s no concern. My only concern is whether to get it for PlayStation 3 or PC.
