Earthworm Jim Coming to Download Services

Update: It’s a remake!

Thanks to GameLoft and Interplay, Earthworm Jim is heading for PSN, WiiWare and XBLA this holiday 2009.

Will it be the original or will it be a remake like GameLoft’s other notable remake, Prince of Persia Classic? The press release doesn’t say. I was excited about the prospect of a sequel or a remake of the original, but a rerelease is a tougher pill to swallow.

I don’t recall the gameplay of Earthworm Jim being very good. I remember being amused by the goofy animation styling and the soundtrack, but not the gameplay itself. And if the game was sketchy then it must atrocious by today’s standards. Either way, I’m curious to see what will come out of this news!

Two Sequels and AudioSurf

Time for another one of them summary posts!

Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia website has a mysterious logo being consumed by black goo. It probably has something to do with the new Prince of Persia coming. Next month’s issue of Edge Magazine will probably have the scoop. I’ve only played the original and I hear this is a reboot of the franchise and not a dark and bloody sequel.

There will be an Earthworm Jim 4 with accompanying cash-ins. (A movie and TV series). I can picture EWJ 4 as a 3D platformer much like Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank which already incorporates all of the earthworm’s basic moveset in some form or another. Thus, I’ll be very disappointed if this game falls short of the Insomniac’s quality. That’s how high (unfair) expectations works, folks.

And finally, AudioSurf is apparently coming to XBLA. Yay for the folks who cannot play it on PC, but meh for those like me who cannot play it via controller or even keyboard; mouse is the only way to go if they’re doing a mere port. It’s a shame they’re not releasing it for PSN, because motion controls may actually work better for this.

Earthworm Jim Sequel In The Plans?

earthworm_jim.jpgIt appears Earthworm Jim, the very groovy guy, may be gracing us with his presence once again according to InterPlay’s earnings report. I loved Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 and I was looking forward to the remake for the PSP which was put on indefinite hold. InterPlay would do well if they put remakes of both 1 and 2 on XBLA/PSN. C’mon, Capcom is on a remaking spree with Bionic Commando, 1942 and SSF2T:HDR.

Other possible sequels include Descent, MDK and the possibility of an FallOut MMO.
