Uncharted, Warcraft & Halo Hollywood style

posted in: Game News 0

Are you sick and tired of all these comic book super heroes being made into competent movies by Hollywood? Do you wish for the days featuring hot video game properties like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter or Doom?

You’re in luck because the next few years will see the likes of Warcraft, Uncharted and live action Halo make its way through Hollywood’s studios. Maybe — just maybe — some of these movies and shows will actually come out.

Warcraft Movie Title Card

The Warcraft movie actually has a title card and a handful of props. No date or footage was revealed but this is progress, right?

The Uncharted doesn’t have a title card but this movie actually has a June, 10th 2016 release date set by Sony themselves. With no cast and filming slated for next year, who knows if they’ll actually make that date.

And finally, for something that may actually see the light of day, there’s Halo: Nightfall. This five part mini-series directed by Ridley Scott will debut in November 2014 and here’s a trailer for it.

To be fair, Halo isn’t a stranger to live action films (see Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn)

E3 2014 started with a huge deal for me. If all goes well, I’m getting an Xbox One for $279 ($110 off). Actually two.

I was planning to pick up an Xbox One in 2015 but those plans were accelerated just a few hours before Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference. And with a possible early arrival of the Xbox One, I needed some games!

Without further ado, here are some of the games that I will likely pick up.

FYI: Marty O’Donnell fired, PS4 sells 7 million

Announcements

  • Marty O’Donnell announced he was fired by Bungie’s Board of Directors (via Twitter)
  • 7 million PlayStation 4 units have been sold through April 6th (via PS.Blog)
  • Final Hours of Titanfall sheds light on Respawn’s early troubles with the title (via NeoGAF)
  • Sony sells all of its Square Enix stock (via Siliconera)

I’ve always enjoyed Marty’s efforts with the Halo games and I’m looking forward to his work on Bungie’s next title, Destiny. It would probably make the most sense for him to end up at 343 Industries but I hope that isn’t the case. I want him to take his talents to other studios and other franchises. How about a shot at the next Mass Effect game? Or just branch off to something completely different like a cyberpunk themed game from the likes of CD Projekt RED?

I’ve seen these “Final Hours…” interactive stories pop up over the years but I never gave them the time of day. I don’t know why either because I appreciate Geoff Keighley’s in depth work and I love interactive written works.

7 million units is nothing to scoff at and I hope Sony continued success. I just wish there were a few more big titles for me to sink my teeth into. (I realize I haven’t played inFamous: Second Son but still.)

Checkpoint: Why I Play Games Edition (Pt. 4)

Checkpoint - Why I Play Games Edition (Pt. 4)

Sometimes I just want a challenge but not one where I’m trying to best others in a live multiplayer setting. Sometimes I just want to take on the game designer’s creations, beat a friend’s high score or even my own.

I sympathize with developers. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to create convincing artificial intelligence. Bungie’s efforts with the Halo series sit high on my list for walking that tight line between developing something challenging and some something cheap. If I’m bested by the computer, I want to feel like I was outwitted or outmaneuvered, I don’t want to feel like I was taken down because of their robotic precision or their omnipresence.
