LTTP: Ico (PS3)

Shadow of the Colossus was my first Fumito Ueda game and having finally finished Ico, it will remain my favorite game of his as well. I never played Ico before the HD release because back in the early 2000’s, I was less willing to experiment with games. I knew so little about it and that hideous cover did not help its appeal either. I was also a primarily a PC player at the time.

I found Ico had a handful of flaws that kept it from resonating with me. The animation and finicky controls around ledges constantly reminded me that it was from 2001. It wasn’t an unplayable game by any means but those regular reminders were detracting from the experience.

Checkpoint: Q3 ’13 Gaming Expenses Edition

checkpoint-q3-13-gaming-expenses-edition

Three quarters into 2013 and my gaming expenditures were not as I expected.

  • Total spent thus far: $237.64
  • Total saved: $1,159.78

Humble Bundles, freebies and the drastic cut downs on new release purchases contributed to relatively little spent. There’s a spending storm coming in November but I do not expect my total expenses for 2013 to exceed $1000.

I wrapped up ICO. I prefer Shadow of the Colossus over it but it still has its charms. The issues I had with it were primarily due to the fact that it was a title from 2001. A proper remake would do this game justice.

The next logical choice on my backlog would be Shadow of the Colossus or an ICO trophy run but there’s a growing number of PC titles that I’m itching to play including the almighty Fez.

I’m missing out on so many HD collections

kojima_productions_logo.pngICO & the Shadow of the Colossus Collection comes out tomorrow and I’m not getting it because there are so many other releases that aren’t re-releases coming within the next two months.

It’s really too bad because I’ve never played ICO and SotC deserves a revisit in glorious 30 FPS. (For those who don’t know that’s actually 15 FPS upgrade over the PlayStation 2 release.)

But that’s not the only HD re-release that I’m interested in. Below is a list of wanted HD re-releases that have been released or will be releasing this year.

  • The Sly Cooper Collection
  • God of War Origins Collection
  • The ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
  • Resident Evil 4 HD

That’s eleven games that I would love to revisit before more new games and remakes hit store shelves tomorrow.

Sega
  • Yakuza: Of The End features zombies – Sounds crazy and intriguing. I also hear it features some mechas? Even crazier.
  • Valkyria Chronicles 3 is PSP bound – Don’t expect me to pick it up right away. Like with VC2 for PSP.

Sony

  • Shadow of the Colossus and Ico are being re-released in HD – No details on whether it’s 720p60 or what, but I am looking forward to this!

Debut Trailer

My Reaction

Even though it has so many talented high profile Japanese gaming developers involved, very skeptical about this. That trailer did not impress me at all.
