Ghosts will support dedicated servers for all platforms

activision-logoI suspected as much. There was no way one of the industry’s biggest franchises from one of the world’s largest publishers was going to stuff a fundamental feature to just two versions of the game.

Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin confirmed on Twitter today that “dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC” versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts. That’s great news for Call of Duty fans and it only took an additional two months to get that bullet point confirmed.

Why did it take so long though? According to Mr. Rubin, he was not allowed to “call out other platforms by name”. By whom? Microsoft? Would they be that petty? Apparently so.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is a Call of Duty game

Every year I look forward to the multiplayer reveal of Call of Duty games. I don’t know why I do. I’m not a huge Call of Duty fan. In fact, I would consider myself a fan of Treyarch’s efforts and that’s about it. Infinity Ward hasn’t been the same since they sent this franchise into a storm of killstreaks and air support.

This trailer doesn’t do the game many favors. Unlike with Battlefield 4, it’s not immediately evident that this is a next generation title. They also fail to give context to many of the game’s new features. Speaking with my brother who watched the “event”, it sounds like Infinity Ward is building upon what Black Ops 2 established.

“Does this game feature Gun Game?”

That is the most important question. It’s not going to stop me from picking it up but it will determine how long I hold onto it. I was very close to passing on it until Treyarch’s year but I thought to myself: I’ve purchased all the Call of Duty titles thus far, why stop now?

CoD: Ghosts Confirmed for 6 Platforms

And here we are. Call of Duty: Ghosts was made official with a teaser website and now a teaser video:

This is an Infinity Ward joint. Sledgehammer Games have confirmed they’re working on their next project. All we know about CoD: Ghosts are the six platforms that it will land on including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PC, PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox.

Speaking of the next Xbox, the world will be given (and probably shown) more details on the next Call of Duty at Microsoft’s next generation Xbox reveal event. Now I have even more reasons to tune in.

Modern Warfare 3 wasn’t a fire starter for me but I somehow convinced myself that Call of Duty: Ghosts could be interesting.

Settlement Reached for Activision vs. West/Zampella

posted in: Game News 0

activision-logoFormer Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella just got a whole lot richer. Activision and the duo settled today for what could only be assumed as a large sum of money. We don’t know the exact details of the settlement, but who are we kidding here? West and Zampella got paid.

Activision probably wanted to avoid all the dirt that would have been exposed in the trial. Some of it already came out with the whole Project Icebreaker fiasco and if more dirt along those lines were on its way, it was wise for Activision to throw in the towel.

It’s too bad the public won’t know what really happened with this whole situation. On the bright side, everyone will be able to move on and get back to making games.
