Fuse PS3 Demo Impressions

Fuse - Fuse doesn't look this good in practice but it isn't too shabby either.

I finally got around to trying the Fuse demo last night. It didn’t meet my expectations but not for typical reasons.

Fuse would have been far more amusing with four players chatting over the headset; they would have filled the void of noise or notable audio stimuli. I found Fuse to be muted with its audio. Visually it was fine but the lack of audio punch in nearly everything I was involved with left me underwhelmed.

I was also disappointed by the lack of flair from the characters. They too felt restrained and simply weren’t as funny or witty as I thought they could be. Maybe it’s too early in the campaign and they were not accustomed to each other yet. Or maybe — just maybe — developers should divulge a bit more than what we’re given here.

On the bright side, switching between the different characters worked just as well as switching weapons. I appreciated the fact that I could leave a character in a precarious situation and they would find their way to cover. The A.I was actually competent based on what I witnessed. They set up shields, revived and did kept themselves out of unnecessary trouble.

I’m not going to pick up Fuse. I felt like I got all I wanted out of that demo. The final game could end up being amazing but I can’t help shake the feeling that it would be better played as a 4 player co-operative game.

Also this game probably has the ugliest fire effect on this side of the PlayStation 1.

Fuse will debut on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 28th, 2013

Ratchet & Clank movie will be a reality in 2015

Ever since Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction (my first R&C game), I wondered why Insomniac Games & Sony didn’t pull the trigger on a Ratchet & Clank movie. Electronic Arts even went down the path of bringing Dead Space to DVD and they don’t have an animation studio under their belt.

Today the wondering ceased with the release of this Ratchet & Clank movie teaser:

If they didn’t mention that was a movie, it could have been a teaser for a new game.

18 minute Fuse Progress Update by Ted Price

posted in: Game News 0

So here’s an 18 minute walkthrough of Fuse (the game formerly known as Overstrike) by Mr. Insomniac Games himself, Ted Price.

I like the characters that they’ve re-introduced in this but I do prefer the more over-the-top characters of the original Overstrike debut trailer.

To me, the characters in the Overstrike trailer were reminiscent The Incredibles. These Fuse characters by comparison appear to tame and watered down.

I like the gameplay ideas Ted talked up in the walkthrough but this entire video was overly long for what they showed. They should have cut the backstory segments into a separate video and they certainly didn’t need to spend so much time fleshing out the progression system. It’s a progression system; it’s a staple of games now.

A new mini Ratchet & Clank game comes this Autumn

Quest For Booty was alright. $15 for a short adventure isn’t so bad when you split amongst a sibling or something. But $15 for a short adventure with virtually no replay value is a tougher pill to swallow for others which is why Insomniac Games is going to make Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (great subtitle) with replay value in mind.

They’re adding a tower defence mode of some kind. It will also feature co-op which I’m okay with. Third person tower defense games can work as Trenched/Iron Brigade so clearly demonstrates.

I skipped the last Ratchet & Clank but I’m intrigued by this upcoming instalment in the Lombax franchise.
