Checkpoint: Living in the Backlog Edition

checkpoint-living-in-the-backlog-edition

I’ll admit it. All these GIFs, screen caps and commercials of Grand Theft Auto V does make me regret not pre-ordering it during FutureShop’s E3 promotion.

I’ll get over it though. The need to clear the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 backlog prevails. I just looked through my shelf and forgot I had a few outstanding classics that need completion.

  1. Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection (both games)
  2. God of War: Ghost of Sparta
  3. Injustice: Gods Among Us

I have Rayman: Origins “trophy run” to complete as well.

Injustice was an unexpected get. For whatever reason, a Costa Rican account signing in to  the Moroccan Xbox Live! Marketplace were able to download a handful of games for free including Injustice: Gods Among Us, Sonic Adventure, Flashback and Ikaruga.

I don’t like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team very much. It continues to fight me with its tutorials and lame jokes. These jokes aren’t fun puns; they just fall flat. It’s a combination of the art style and the anime influence. I found the Paper Mario series’ writing more entertaining.

I’ll stick with it but I’m just treating it like a MMORPG at this point — just give me the quest so I can move on.

What’s in My Backlog Right Now?

darksiders

Having just finished my second run through Mass Effect 2, I’m left pondering over what game I should be playing next.

  1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PC)
  2. Darksiders (PC)
  3. Shadows of the Damned (PS3)
  4. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (360)
  5. Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition (PC)
  6. Ico & The Shadow of the Colossus Collection

Seven games if you break it down. Seven games that I’ve purchased recently or have upcoming sequels.

The most obvious answer is to start Darksiders because of Darksiders 2 later this year, but I have Skyrim here and cannot let it stay unfinished like Fallout: New Vegas. To avoid this situation in the future, I’m just going to stop buying Bethesda published role playing games. These games cannot keep my attention.

What should I play next then? I haven’t touched the PlayStation 3 in awhile, so maybe it’s Shadows of the Damned? I hear it’s funny and I wouldn’t mind more funny in my gaming right now.

I’m missing out on so many HD collections

kojima_productions_logo.pngICO & the Shadow of the Colossus Collection comes out tomorrow and I’m not getting it because there are so many other releases that aren’t re-releases coming within the next two months.

It’s really too bad because I’ve never played ICO and SotC deserves a revisit in glorious 30 FPS. (For those who don’t know that’s actually 15 FPS upgrade over the PlayStation 2 release.)

But that’s not the only HD re-release that I’m interested in. Below is a list of wanted HD re-releases that have been released or will be releasing this year.

  • The Sly Cooper Collection
  • God of War Origins Collection
  • The ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
  • Resident Evil 4 HD

That’s eleven games that I would love to revisit before more new games and remakes hit store shelves tomorrow.

  • Yakuza: Of The End features zombies – Sounds crazy and intriguing. I also hear it features some mechas? Even crazier.
  • Valkyria Chronicles 3 is PSP bound – Don’t expect me to pick it up right away. Like with VC2 for PSP.

Sony

  • Shadow of the Colossus and Ico are being re-released in HD – No details on whether it’s 720p60 or what, but I am looking forward to this!

Debut Trailer

My Reaction

Even though it has so many talented high profile Japanese gaming developers involved, very skeptical about this. That trailer did not impress me at all.
