Pokemon + Tekken = Pokken

Pokken Tournament is an upcoming Pokemon fighting game developed by Namco’s Tekken team.

What a weird collaboration.

I’m glad it exists thought. I want Nintendo to continue this trend of lending their properties to other external developers. Now, it’s weird of them to focus only on Pokemon but I guess they didn’t want to step on the toes of Smash Bros.

So who else will make the roster? Will just be fighting Pokemon? I expect both Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee to make appearances. I really hope they stick to fighting type. I would be a weird but awesome story justification for the game.

Pokken Tournament will make its way to Japanese arcades in 2015. I suspect a Wii U version will also be announced for later that year.

Look at all these trailers. It was like there was a fighting game tournament over the weekend and all these developers decided it was a good time to release more media on upcoming fighters.

EVO 2014 happened but I didn’t watch much of it. I didn’t even bother with the Ultra Street Fighter IV final. I did, however, catch the trailers that were revealed starting with the confirmation of Raiden in Mortal Kombat X.

The Tekken 7 teaser was a big letdown for me. Rumors of Namco Bandai using Unreal Engine 4 piqued my interest and was looking forward to seeing how the latest rendition of Kazuya Mishima looks like.

It’s obvious that Fire Emblem: Awakening made a big splash for Nintendo. Lucina, Robin (both male & female versions) and Chrom were confirmed for Smash Bros. I guess it was tough for Nintendo to choose just one representative from that game.

First week of October is here so let’s take a look at this month’s noteworthy gaming line-up.

Week of Oct. 6

  • Demon’s Souls (PS3)
    • A seemingly tough JRPG with a western aesthetic. I’m intrigued by it and would love to play it, but it’s an incredibly crowded month.
  • NBA Live 10 (360, PS3, PSP)
    • Surprisingly, my brother isn’t picking up an NBA game this season.
  • Wii Fit Plus
    • It’s a nice replacement for new comers, but is it worth picking up for current owners? My mom says no.
  • Afrika (PS3)
    • An African safari simulator. I’d love to try this out.
  • MotorStorm: Arctic Edge (PSP, PS2)
    • It’s MotorStorm for the PSP and PS2. Intrigued, but that’s about it.
  • Critter Crunch (PSN)
    • It came out on iPhone already and if it wasn’t for the attractive price tag of $6.99, I wouldn’t have given this a second look. But here we are.
