Checkpoint: Trading In Edition

Checkpoint: Trading In Edition

How much longer will I be able to do this? How much longer will EB Games be around? How much longer will physical games be around? Who knows but this is why I like physical copies still.

I just traded in the following games to EB Games:

  • Gears of War 3 – $1
  • Super Mario Maker – $26
  • Killer Instinct: Season 1 – $3
  • God of War 3 (PS3) – $0.50
  • Uncharted – $2
  • Uncharted 2 – $1
  • Uncharted 3 – $2
  • Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) – $7
  • Halo 4 – $3
  • Gears of War 2 – $0.05
  • Gears of War – $0.05

I took advantage of EB Games’ “double trade credit towards everything Switch” promotion and got rid of titles that I had HD remasters for. Until yesterday, they allowed PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 titles and I rather have the empty shelf space so 10 cents for Gears of War 2 was better than nothing.

Now EB Games are giving a minimum of $10 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One titles which means I can get $20 for titles like Metro Redux, Rare Replay and Halo 5 if I trade them in towards the Switch.

It’s been Picross 3D and Yakuza 0 for most of the week. My brother and I have played the Puyo Puyo Tetris Japanese Switch demo for a couple of days though. What a great game. Looking forward to picking up that digital version.

Checkpoint: Purging the Generation Edition

As this console generation winds down I’ve begun to purge the excess console games. I’m getting rid of games I don’t wish to replay, redundant games that I’ve replaced with PC versions or just games I don’t want in my collection.

I’m not going down the route of eBay; it’s straight to EB Games. Who’s going to buy a copy of Splinter Cell: Conviction or SOCOM 4? Even if EB Games gives me a $1.30 for Splinter Cell: Conviction, I’m going to give it to them. That’s probably how much ends up my pocket if I put it on eBay anyways.

I don’t recommend dropping into an EB Games without taking advantage of a promotion though. I’m going to take these games in and trade them towards Luigi’s Mansion 2. An additional 30% to the trade in value — which you can find here — is better than nothing.

I’m still working through Rayman: Origins and playing lots of MechWarrior: Online. I’m feeling more optimistic about the future of MechWarrior: Online after the developers put forth a revised version¬†of their “consumables” plan. I can’t believe they thought their original plan was a good idea.

Checkpoint: Not According To Plan Edition

Things haven’t gone according plan in my world. Some of it personal, but most of it gaming and gadget related.

Despite my pleas for some opinions on why I SHOULDN’T get a Zune HD, I’ve decided not to pick one up. Why? Because the day after I posted that plea on QSF5 and NeoGAF, I decided to pay closer attention to my iPod Nano and how I use it. And based on my observations, no touch centric device will ever beat the ease of “in pocket” use of an iPod Nano.

Checkpoint: Trading It In Edition

Last week I spoke of some of my tips for saving money as a gamer. I mentioned trading or selling off old games and I even pointed out the fact that EB Games isn’t the best place to trade-in your old titles. “I’m trying not to sell them to the likes of EB Games who don’t believe in offering fair prices at a consistent basis “.

Well it looks like they’re offering some pretty good prices. Check it out:
