I’m sitting here watching Roger Federer and Andy Roddick slug it out in the Wimbledon finals. It’s a gruelingly match with both guys unwilling to budge. All this tennis got me thinking about Virtua Tennis 2K2 and all the epic matches friends and I had with back during the Dreamcast days.
Out of all the Virtua Tennis games, 2K2 was by far my favorite. It was my first tennis game and it was was easy to pick up, but tough to master. I’m a fan of Virtua Tennis 3 as well, but I never got the opportunity to play many local games. The newly released Virtua Tennis 2009 looks like it brings more of the same, but I just can’t quite pull the trigger for a purchase.
But what about Top Spin, you say? It’s the “Gran Turismo” of tennis games and that’s not what I’m looking for. I respect the depth and realism that it brings to the table, but it’s just not the accessible game I’m accustomed to.
And as I’m writing this, history was made. Roger Federer won his 15th Grand Slam title. With this victory, I wonder how the tennis game sales will be. Hell, even I’m willing to pick it up for the $44.99 price tag.
Anyways, congratulations to Roger Federer!
