Battlefield: Hardline vs Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will not be duking it out this holiday season but this won’t stop EA and Activision’s PR machines from churning out media and walkthroughs of their single player campaigns.
Long ago 2K announced the return of XCOM in the form of a first person shooter developed by the folks behind BioShock 2, 2K Marin. Several delays, restarts and a proper XCOM game later, we have The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
The XCOM shooter is now a third person squad based tactical game reminiscent of Mass Effect. Instead of reading my recounts of what I watched, why not watch this little walkthrough instead:
So here’s an 18 minute walkthrough of Fuse (the game formerly known as Overstrike) by Mr. Insomniac Games himself, Ted Price.
I like the characters that they’ve re-introduced in this but I do prefer the more over-the-top characters of the original Overstrike debut trailer.
To me, the characters in the Overstrike trailer were reminiscent The Incredibles. These Fuse characters by comparison appear to tame and watered down.
I like the gameplay ideas Ted talked up in the walkthrough but this entire video was overly long for what they showed. They should have cut the backstory segments into a separate video and they certainly didn’t need to spend so much time fleshing out the progression system. It’s a progression system; it’s a staple of games now.
Here’s a 16 minute walkthrough of Hitman: Absolution.
Pessimists will undoubtedly compare this to Splinter Cell: Conviction mixed with a bit of Batman: Arkham Asylum. I simply see a streamlined Hitman game.
They added a cover system, some detective vision and simplified the takedown mechanics. The “detective vision” is a nice visual aid for new comers. For Hitman die hards, I hope going for a “Silent Assassin” rating requires you not to use it.
If it wasn’t obvious, the walkthrough wasn’t showcasing a Silent Assassin approach, but instead a wide range of options. I like options.
Hitman: Absolution is a 2012 release for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
