I don’t normally do anything for Halloween. I’m part of the contingent of people who simply enjoys the cheap candy on November 1st. But this year is a bit different. I’m actually playing some horror themed games in celebration of this “holiday”.
Thanks to digital distribution sales and other October releases, I’m playing three games which could be considered Halloween games.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – It’s growing on me. The second chapter was rough, but I’m enjoying it more and more as I march forward. It still has issues, but it also has vampires, werewolves and ghouls which makes it thematically relevant. It’s not very scary though.
Limbo – I didn’t want to pick this up so soon. I wanted to wait for an Xbox Live! Arcade sale. But my bro wanted this game (along with Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light and the Alan Wake: The Writer DLC) for our “2400 MS games list”. It is a creepy game. Minimalist and gruesome.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent – I picked this up at GamersGate’s $9.99 sale. This is one of the most unsettling games I’ve played. You don’t see many monsters here; it’s all psychological. If you’re a fan of being scared by what seems like “nothing” then this game is for you. It sends shivers all over just thinking about it. (If only it would stop crashing.)
And those are my Halloween games! From thematic to moody to scary. Lots of variety this year. Who knows? Maybe this will become and annual thing for me if more games like these line up.
